Proceedings

  • Meeting called to order at 7:30am. Introductions were held.
  • Business Spotlite – Stafford Smiles
    • Dr Stafford discussed the current happenings at his business
    • They are forming a Reading for Life team
    • The Halloween Candy Buyback went well
      • They bought back 100lbs of candy this year!
      • The candy was sent overseas to military personell
    • He went over a brief history of dentistry leading to the newer modern practices
      • Implants are the newest development in modern dentistry, allowing people to fill holes where before they would need bridges
  • Guest Speaker – Jason Tuck – New Transportation Maintenance Fee Proposal
    • Jason spoke to the Alliance about the proposed maintenance tax and what it would do for local businesses and residents
    • The fee is intended to cover immediate repair needs and high priority projects
    • Funds will go to major streets first
    • Each street gets a rating based on condition and poorest condition roads also get priority
    • There is a projected deficit between gas tax funds and needed money to manage these repairs
    • Jason also discussed the Pedestrian Master Plan which focuses money on sidewalks where needed.
    • February 16th is the next presentation with City Council
      • They will decide whether or not to take it to a public hearing
  • City Update – Steve Campbell
    • Survivor tryouts at New Seasons went well – approx. 130 participants with over 400 watching.
    • Passport Services are opening on March 1st to the public at city hall
    • New state law regarding subdivisions:
      • Any subdivision with 13+ units must now contain an HoA
    • Housing market is showing improvement
  • City Update continued
    • Happy Valley is currently looking at becoming a host city for Police training
      • This would bring a bigger police presence to the city
    • According to local Police debit card theft is on the rise
    • The city will also be looking at new sponsorship opportunities this year, possibly adding a carnival at some point
  • Announcements!
  • March 31st will be a joint event between the HVBA, North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce, and Providence to promote the new medical center
  • Welcome Packets will be starting next month!
  • They will include letters from the HVBA and Mayor Wheeler
  • Local police will be delivering them to all new residents of the City
  • There will be space for local ads and coupons from HVBA members
  • Clackamas Review will be producing these for us at no charge!
  • Inserts are needed by the 15th of each month to be included
  • March 30th – West Coast Bank Blood Drive
