Proceedings

• Meeting called to order at 7:30am. Introductions were held.

• Guest Speakers – Phil Manzano and Kjerstin Gabrielson – Community News Web Editors – The Oregonian
  • Phil and Kjerston introduced the oregonlive.com community forums
    • There is one specifically for Happy Valley
    • The idea is to allow people to talk about what’s going on locally
    • Much of the posted information will be repurposed for print
  • Phil also discussed how the media and news front has changed dramatically lately
    • Information is MUCH faster than it used to be
    • People can pick and choose the news they want to read
    • People now post their own news
  • Videos are becoming huge
    • Viral videos on YouTube and other sites reach millions of viewers the world over
  • OregonLive has lots of local information
    • School data is available
    • Local news is available
    • Over 2.6 million unique users per month access the site
  • Print Calendars are going live on each city’s forum/blog pages
    • You can submit your own events!
    • Turnaround is 2-3 days online and 3 weeks for print
    • You are urged to keep postings to community-based events

• Business Spotlight – Erik Wood Agency – American Family Insurance
  • Erik and his agency staff, Georgia, introduced themselves and the agency
    • Located in Happy Valley
    • Moving soon down to Hwy 212
    • Specializes in commercial and life insurance, as well as personal lines
• City Update
  • A pre-certification grant was given to the City for the Rock Creek industrial area
    • This will allow the city to get properties pre-certified
    • Pre-certification helps us sell the sites, especially to national companies
    • Businesses LOOK for these types of sites because they know the land is ready to go
  • Clackamas Land Trust art contest
    • Art will be at City Hall soon
  • A grant was received for bike paths in the area and economic opportunity research
  • 4th of July is coming!
    • Business Booths are still available! Contact Stephani Hern
    • A coffee and Mexican food vendor are needed
  • Summer Concerts start in July
    • Thursdays 7-9pm through August

• Announcements!
  • New website is coming!
    • Diesel Web Design is doing the site
    • A launch party will happen sometime in July (13th tentatively)
  • HV Business Directory
    • Marketing is starting soon
    • Pamplin Media will be at our next meeting to discuss this
  • Nametags
    • Special purchase through July - $10 each!
  • Board Elections
    • Elections will be held soon for all board positions for the July 2010 – July 2011 term
    • Secretary and Meeting Coordinator positions will be vacant
  • Annual Dues renew in July
